  1. 4 Benefits of Installing Frameless Glass Shower Doors

Beautifying your bathroom often means making it more elegant, modern, and minimalistic. There’s just something calming about stepping into a space that is simple yet polished. And frameless glass shower doors are one of the best ways to accomplish this.

Many people are drawn to frameless shower glass doors simply because they are so beautiful. However, frameless glass doors offer many other benefits, because they are easy to clean and environmentally friendly. Plus, they offer many design possibilities.

If you’re planning on renovating your bathroom, keep reading to discover four lovely benefits of installing frameless glass shower doors.

Benefits of Frameless Glass Shower Doors

#1: Frameless Glass Shower Doors Are Easy To Clean

Yes, frameless glass is stunningly beautiful. But who wants stunningly beautiful if it means extra cleanup?

Thankfully, both frameless shower glass doors and bath enclosures are actually easier to clean than regular options, because there are no extra grooves or corners for gunk to accumulate.

Plus, when installed by highly-skilled glaziers, you’ll get seamless corner joints and hanging shower and tub doors that open flawlessly, keeping all the drips and splashes inside.

And please note that we use only top quality 10 and 12 mm tempered glass to ensure strength, durability and, above all, your personal safety.

#2: Say Goodbye To Mould With Frameless Shower Glass and Bathtub Enclosures

One of the benefits of eliminating extra grooves and corners in your bathroom? You’re creating less space for mould to grow.

Of course, ordinary glass is prone to damage and aging from hard water, soap, humidity and more. That’s why we like to use ShowerGuard and Clear-Fusion Pro glass, which is protected during manufacturing, using technology that permanently seals the glass surface.

This creates a shower that stays beautiful and hopefully mould-free with just a minimal amount of cleaning. All you need is a squeegee and some Sprayway Glass Cleaner, and your shower is good to go.

#3: Create A More Environmentally Friendly Bathroom With Frameless Glass

Thankfully, many people are now considering the environmental impact of all their decisions, including in their interior design.

And thankfully, frameless shower glass panels are environmentally friendly. This is because frameless shower glass is 100% recyclable.

Glass is actually one of the greenest of construction materials available, since its basic component is silica (ie: sand) is easily obtainable throughout the world.

    #4: So Many Design Possibilities!

And perhaps the best reason to choose frameless glass is the sheer amount of design possibilities it presents. The sky is almost the limit when it comes to frameless glass in the bathroom.

Here are just some of the possibilities.

    • European Style

Whether your living room staircase is looking a little outdated or you want to keep kids or pets safe on the patio, frameless glass railings are a beautifully durable way to transform any home or commercial space.

If you install them indoors, these innovative panels create a spacious and contemporary aesthetic. If you use them outdoors, they add peace of mind without sacrificing appearance. They’re really hard for kids to climb, and have no panels for children or pets to get through.

Also, because the panels are made of tempered glass, they’re incredibly strong and durable—they’re actually shatterproof!

Before we get into the types of rails that are available, here are a few more benefits:

    • They’re maintenance-free. A squeegee coupled with our non-toxic cleaner is all you need to keep your panels looking like new.
    • They’re excellent for wind and noise protection. That’s why they’re commonly used for outdoor restaurant seating.
    • They’re environmentally friendly. The glass is 100% recyclable and is actually one of the greenest construction materials out there, because its basic component is easily obtainable silica (sand).

    Enhancements for COVID-19 & Beyond

With summer right around the corner, many of us are thinking about new home and office renovation and remodeling projects. And as we stay hunkered down, spending the majority of our time at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we’re even more likely to be looking around and realizing all of the upgrades we could do!

We’re starting to see glimpses of life returning to a “new normal,” but one of the challenges people are having is finding contractors that are still willing to even do home renovation jobs during this time.

A lot of projects have been put on hold indefinitely, and many contractors aren’t taking on new ones just yet. (And while some projects are fine to DIY, installing frameless glass isn’t one of them!)

That’s why we’re pleased to announce that Eclipse Glass is 100% up and running for all of your frameless glass needs. We wanted to share a few of the ways we could help you create your dream space to enjoy now and beyond COVID-19:

    1. Employee health enhancements.

Frameless glass office partitionsCompanies are starting to roll out return-to-work plans to bring remote employees back into the office. But employers are talking about taking precautions, like having everyone wear facemasks, limiting the number of employees in the kitchen and putting up glass partitions to prevent the spread of germs.

Things aren’t going to look exactly the same as they were before, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for drab walled-in meeting rooms or rows upon rows of plexiglass cubicle dividers. Our frameless glass partitions are an elegant way to provide your employees with private workspaces that help protect them.

    2. Patios that are set for summer.

patio-frameless-glassMaybe you cleaned your patio for spring and are eager to have a few friends over for a BBQ once social distancing rules are relaxed. Or, maybe you’re looking for a more hygienic option than wood or plastic for your outdoor space.

All of our side-mount glass railings are made of the best quality 12, 15 or 19 mm tempered glass. They’re durable, shatterproof and very safe, making them ideal for families with small children or pets.

In addition to being a breeze to keep clean, they offer a gorgeous, unobstructed view from your patio or balcony; perfect for lazy days or social evenings!

    3. Cool and contemporary bathrooms.

Frameless Bathtub enclosureMaybe you’re around more these days to focus on a bathroom revamp. Or, maybe it’s just time to say goodbye to that dated shower door that builds up mildew and grime.

No matter the reason for transforming your bathroom, you’ll love that our frameless bath and shower glass enclosures:

    • Let in more natural light, brightening up any space
    • Open flawlessly and keep all the drips and splashes inside
    • Don’t contain a metal frame, so there’s no risk of corrosion or rust
    • Are easy to keep clean and brand new-looking
    • Are extremely durable and safe

We hope we’ve given you some inspiration to improve the aesthetics and safety of your home, office and patio with frameless glass.

  4. From Waterfalls to Frameless Glass Showers: A History

From Waterfalls to Frameless Glass Showers: A History

When you’re soaping up under a hot stream of water before you begin your day, do you ever marvel at the fact that such a modern convenience exists?

After reading how people long ago stayed clean, you probably will!

Let’s go way back to ancient civilizations around the world, who would bathe in lakes, rivers, oceans and waterfalls. Servants poured (often very cold) jugs of water over Egyptians and Romans. Public bathhouses were a common destination in many areas of the world—not only to get clean, but also to socialize.

It was the Greeks who invented the first showers, with aqueducts pumping H20 into a communal area—not exactly the frameless shower enclosures people enjoy today. Only the very wealthy could afford private bath areas.

Here’s where things get a bit dirtier.

Until the Black Plague hit Europe in the 14th century, bathing was seen as a sign of vanity and a religious taboo. Many people avoided it altogether or washed very infrequently.

Following the plague that decimated a third of Europe, people began to understand the importance of cleanliness and its popularity surged.

However, that doesn’t mean that everyone was showering regularly: a person might wash their face and hands daily, but generally they would bathe every few weeks or months. (In fact, doctors didn’t even wash their hands before surgery until they learned more about germs in the late 1800s).

Over the years, designs changed and in the 19th century, a basic system grew in popularity. Well, we say “basic” now, but at the time it was considered a luxury that only the well-off could afford to install. At over 12 feet tall, it consisted of a metal frame, hand pump and tank.

When indoor plumbing was invented in 1850, free-standing showers could actually be connected to a water source. That brings us to the 20th century, when tankless water heaters became more readily available. They could generate hot water without the need for a tank, allowing more and more families to shower on a regular basis in their own bathrooms.

Frameless Glass ShowerThe 80s were a time of improvements, with features such as coloured lights and varying pressures becoming more commonplace. Technologies continued to improve, with most households having glass showers with curtains or sliding doors by the late 90s.

That’s great and all, but there are some drawbacks to these setups that many families still have in their homes today:

    • Mold and dirt can build up in hard-to-clean tracks and grooves
    • Plastic or cloth curtains get grimy over time, needing to be replaced
    • They can make your bathroom look small and dated
    • The materials used to create them are often environmentally unfriendly

When it’s time to update your bathroom, rest assured that Eclipse Glass uses environmentally-friendly, 100% recyclable materials with silica (sand) as the basic component.

Everything is easy to keep clean, as there are no crevices or corners for dirt and mold to build up in. And, they look sleek and modern. Learn more about our products here.

Things have changed a lot since Eclipse Glass first started to work in Metro Vancouver bathrooms back in 2000! What do you think will be next?

  5. 6 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Contractor

6 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Contractor

Asking the right questions before hiring a contractor or tradesperson to work in your home is the key to a smooth renovation or remodel. Whether you’re dealing with construction workers, plumbers, decorators, electricians or glass companies in Vancouver, protect yourself by doing the research first.

Here’s what you should be asking before hiring a contractor:

    1. How long have you been in business?

Sure, everyone has to start somewhere, but you don’t want someone learning the ropes at your expense. With over a decade of experience in frameless glass installation and design, Adrian is happy to tell clients about his expertise for peace of mind before starting a project.

Don’t be afraid to check the Better Business Bureau or Google your contractor’s name to dig deeper.

    2. Who will be working on my project?

Depending on the size of the job and the company you pick, there could be any number of people in your space each day. Some remodelers contract out certain jobs, while others will be there to supervise the crew.

Make sure you have a contact number to call if you have any issues while workers are onsite. You don’t want to get stuck in a situation where nobody is in charge and you’re frantically trying to solve a problem or get answers to an important question.

    3. Can I see your portfolio?Staircase with Glass Railing

Many companies have online galleries or portfolios where you can check out examples of past work. Often, they’ll have more than what they post online, so inquire about additional photos that might help you make a decision. Here’s our gallery.

If they don’t have an online presence or offer any pics, don’t hire them!

    4. What’s the timeline for completion?

You want to agree on a start and end date before hiring a contractor. Secondly, you want to be aware of any circumstances that could change the dates, such as other projects or current bids that aren’t finalized yet.

If anything could interfere with your schedule, the business should tell you how they deal with these sorts of interruptions—beware the vague answer.

    5. What’s the payment schedule?

Ensure all payment terms are clear: how much is due, when it’s due and what types of payment are accepted. If the work isn’t completed on time, will you owe more in labour costs?

Does what you’re paying include extras, or will you need to pay more for those? Here’s an example: as an option, Eclipse Glass will install Shower Guard or Clear-Fusion Pro glass to keep your shower and glass railings clean and looking new for a long time.

This is a choice you can add during your frameless glass installation, but we’ll never hide the cost or surprise you mid-job.

    6. How will you keep my property safe and clean?

If you’re going to be out and about during the day, will workers lock the door? Or, will tradespeople be coming in and out of an open garage? Make sure to mention pets that need to be kept inside, kids who are home after school or visitors arriving to see how they deal with these types of situations.

A reputable company should also be able to tell you all about their dust-containment measures, how they avoid tracking mud on your carpets and so on.

Of course, there are other things to be asking when it’s time to hire a tradesperson. Do your prep work and make a list of what’s important to know ahead of finalizing the deal.

Don’t be afraid to keep asking questions until you’re comfortable with everything—it’s in their best interest to be informative if they want your business and your recommendations to other potential clients.

We can help, too. If you’re researching glass companies in Vancouver to beautify your bathroom, staircases or outdoor areas, get in touch with us and we’ll provide you with as much info as you need.

We can even give you a free online quote.

  6. How to Spring Clean Your Patio

How to Spring Clean Your Patio

As the snow, slush and rain of winter (hopefully) turn into sunnier days, we start thinking about using our backyards and decks again.

Warmer weather means you can enjoy your great outdoors, but first you have to tidy up! Here’s how:

    Declutter

If you’re like most of us, you use your yard to store things – from kids’ toys to gardening tools.

Take a look around and see what you can do without. If you’re a fan of Marie Kondo, the author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, this will probably be fun for you! Either donate what you don’t need or find somewhere else to store it.

    Get rid of grime

Spring clean your patio to leave it sparkling. Sweep up debris and rinse everything off with a garden hose.

Mix up a cleaning solution that’s safe for your wood or concrete or start with soap and water if you’re not sure. Use a scrub brush to get rid of stubborn spots and rinse everything off.

    Clean up cushions and umbrellas

After a long, cold winter your pillows and umbrella may be looking a bit dingy. Mix a quart of warm water, a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of borax in a bucket.

Using a sponge, scrub the cushions and allow everything to sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse with water and stand the cushions to dry in the sun.

    Upgrade the aesthetics

Now is the perfect time to bring in some new stuff. Depending on your budget, you could buy a new furniture set, add patterned pillows or blankets or install a frameless outdoor railing.

These sleek and modern deck railings are the best way to enjoy an unobstructed view. With no handrail or bottom rail, it’s a great way to bring elegance to your entire area – whether you’re entertaining or alone with a book.

Other reasons to choose a frameless outdoor railing:

    • It reduces wind and noise
    • It’s maintenance free
    • It’s safer than traditional deck rails as there are no panels for children or pets to climb through
    • It’s easy to clean and maintain since there are no grooves or corners where dirt and mould can accumulate

    Back patio with glass railing

    Fix up your light fixtures

Don’t forget about your fixtures, which can get dusty and faded after a season of sitting unused. Start with a rag and window cleaner to wipe the inside and outside of the glass.

If there are hard-to-reach spots of dirt, dip an old toothbrush or paintbrush into the window cleaner.

If your fixture has faded, sweep on a new coat of paint or spray on some paint for a brand-new look. Why not try some bright colours like turquoise or Living Coral (Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year) to welcome the warmer seasons?

What’s Hot in 2019: Bathroom Décor Ideas

Can you believe that we’re almost into the second month of 2019?! With a new year comes a whole new variety of design trends for every room in your home, including the bathroom.

Updating your look doesn’t have to mean starting over from scratch. From brightening up paint on the walls to installing a more contemporary tub, it’s simple to give your space a new look for this year and many years to come.

Here are 5 ideas to get you started:

    1. Add some Living Coral.

2019’s Pantone Color of the Year was announced earlier in the year. Expect to see the vibrant yet mellow Living Coral in everything from paint colours to clothing, especially in the spring and summer.

Pantone is considered the authority on colour and picks a new one each year based on everything from art and music to socioeconomic conditions.

Living Coral gives a fresh look to tired colours and is a quick way to inexpensively update your washroom – look for this sunny shade in towels, paint, and accessories.

Choosing a softer coral paint colour serves double duty: it gives off a soothing look and hides scuffs and marks well.

    2. Let floral patterns bloom.

It’s no surprise that one of 2019 décor trends is floral patterns – they’ve made the list for several years now. Floral-patterned wallpaper is big on interior designers’ lists – from tiny blossoms to oversized blooms.

Your washroom is the perfect place to add some blossoms to make everything look cheery. If you’re not comfortable covering all four walls with floral wallpaper, accessorize more subtly on your vanity cabinet or artwork.

    3. Upgrade to frameless sliding glass shower doors or a tub.

The style continues to move away from clunky tubs and opaque shower doors that seem to be a staple in lots of houses.

Instead, people are gravitating towards contemporary frameless sliding glass shower doors or bathtub enclosures that make any area look open and expansive.

Because they’re so sleek, frameless glass shower doors and bathtub enclosures are ideal whether you’re in a large home or a condo. Not only are these bathtub enclosures and showers ultra-modern, they’re also environmentally friendly and easy to clean.

      Natural wood bathroom

    4. Check out tile backsplashes.

Also popular in kitchens, bathroom backsplashes are big in 2019. Along with softer-hued tiles, you’ll see more tile backsplashes that make statements with bright hues and intricate mosaics.

Worried about overwhelming a room with a backsplash? Stick to a smaller space, such as behind the sink or across one wall, rather than covering an entire area.

company based in North Vancouver servicing the Greater Vancouver area.

    5. Minimize clutter and create a natural scene.

Many people are moving away from shelves packed with shells and soaps to calmer, cleaner spaces. A lot of this has to do with Marie Kondo’s bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.

It sold over a million copies and has greatly impacted home design and organization. Choose a few key pieces rather than filling up every corner with knickknacks, decorative pieces and candles. Incorporate natural elements such as wood, bamboo and fresh flowers wherever you can.

Many people are overwhelmed by the thought of renovating or refreshing their living space. However, it doesn’t have to be difficult. With your imagination, these tips and some professional help, you can create something gorgeous and practical!

  8. Discover the Comfort & Style of a Frameless Bathtub Enclosure

Comfort and Style of Frameless Bathtub Enclosure

Who doesn’t love a good long soak in the bathtub – with or without bubbles? Taking a hot bath after a long day is even better when you have a frameless bathtub enclosure.

You might have seen these sleek and stylish tubs in a 5-star hotel or European bathroom.

Sure, a frameless glass bathtub enclosure adds a contemporary, elegant design to just about every style of décor, but there are many more benefits. Although, we wouldn’t blame you for wanting one just on looks alone – these less-is-more enclosures make any bathroom look beautiful.

    frameless-bathtub-enclosure-3

    A frameless bathtub enclosure is:

Easy to clean. Who likes scrubbing the nooks and crannies of a traditional shower or washing mildewed shower curtains? No one! Frameless glass shower and bath enclosures are much easier to clean and keep hygienic since there are no grooves or corners where dirt and mould can accumulate. It’s not hard to enjoy a bathtub that stays beautiful with just a minimal amount of cleaning!

A window to your décor. With no-frame glass doors, your elegant tiles, painted walls or artwork aren’t blocked by a shower curtain or clunky traditional shower door. Anyone who visits your bathroom will see the gorgeous tile work or colours right away.

Environmentally friendly. Frameless glass is 100% recyclable and is actually one of the greenest of construction materials since its basic component is silica – sand – which is easily obtainable throughout the world. You’re not constantly changing out plastic shower curtains either, which only end up in the landfill.

Great for kids. If you’ve ever had to bathe a squirming, splashing toddler, you’ll appreciate how well no-frame glass bathtub enclosures keep water inside the tub. You won’t have to mop up a big puddle of water every time you give your kid a bath.

A space-saver. A frameless bathtub enclosure gives the illusion of a larger bathroom, making them a welcome addition to condos and townhouses where you may have less square footage to work with. They make your bathroom look even bigger and better if you have natural light coming in through a window.

Very customizable. There are so many options available, whether you want a swing style, hinged design or sliding shower frameless shower doors. You get to decide what looks best for your budget and personal taste.

    frameless-bathtub-enclosure-1

Depending on the type of frameless enclosure you pick, other benefits include:

    • No hardware except wall hinges and clips
    • Trackless for a clean, simple, open look
    • Opens up to 90 degrees into and out of the bathtub
    • Thick, clear tempered glass

A frameless bathtub enclosure plays a central role in your bathroom, both practically and aesthetically.

Don’t trust just anyone to install it! Eclipse Glass has been installing glass shower and bathtub enclosures in residences in Metro Vancouver since 2000. We have the expertise and knowledge to make it a seamless process with results you’ll love.

6 Ways to Add Sparkle to Your Holiday Décor

If you’ve read our previous blogs or been on our website before, you may already know about the benefits of frameless glass railings.

For starters, they’re made of tempered glass for optimal strength and durability – they’re actually shatterproof!

This makes them very safe for children and pets, plus they’re easy to clean and maintain. The finishing’s are stainless steel and will last for many years without discolouration or peeling.

Frameless glass railings also look contemporary and beautiful in any home.

Indoor glass railings are an ideal option for your stairways and attach to almost any existing wall without the need for baseboard-style foundations to hold the panels in place.

Outdoor glass railings are securely held in place with horizontal metal strips, much like a curtain rail.

They look best around patios, pools, balconies and verandas – anywhere you want to add safety without sacrificing aesthetics.

Practicality and looks aside, have you ever thought of decorating your frameless glass railings for Christmas?

During the Xmas season, we focus on picking out the perfect Christmas tree, stringing lights and hanging wreaths, but we often forget that indoor and outdoor glass can be a wonderful canvas for holiday décor.

Here are six holiday decorating ideas that will make your indoor or outdoor glass railings sparkle this season:

    1. Attach a holiday garland to your frameless glass railing.

Whether you like a natural-looking forest green garland or white foliage adorned with red bows, use glass-safe adhesive tape or zip ties to secure your stylish décor in place.

    2. Line the patio behind your outdoor glass railings with flameless pillar candles.

These fire-free candles look cozy, are safer around kids and pets and won’t go out when the winter wind blows.

The light will cast a gorgeous glow on the frameless glass during your holiday party.

    3. Hang a holiday stocking at the foot of your indoor glass railings.

Use safe adhesive tape or a zip tie to hang a plaid, all-white or reindeer-patterned decorative stocking.

Fill it with ornaments, candies or small gifts for an impressively easy holiday effect your guests will see as soon as they walk in the door.

    4. Choose two trees for the stairs.

This holiday decorating idea works for outdoor and indoor glass railings.

Put small decorated Christmas trees on each side of the stairs for a warm, inviting look. You can use white or blue twinkle lights to create a winter wonderland at night.

    5. Stick on some holiday decals.

From Santa to snowflakes, you can find inexpensive and reusable Christmas decals to put on your outdoor or indoor frameless glass railings.

Look for ones that won’t damage your glass railing or leave sticky residue behind when you peel them off.

    6. Put the spotlight on the holidays.

4 Benefits of Frameless Glass Railings for Your Business

We’ve talked about the beauty of frameless glass railings for your home in a previous blog post, but they’re also a great option for your business.

From restaurants and stores to offices and galleries, affordable frameless glass railings add elegance, convenience and safety to any space.

Here are 4 reasons to choose frameless glass railings for your business:

    1. You’ll Enjoy a Beautiful View

If you’re choosing frameless glass railings for an indoor area, you’ll love the way they open up the room and make it look larger.

Many of today’s offices use frameless glass railings to complement their open-space concept, meaning employees sit together in one large area with lots of natural light, rather than working in individual offices.

Side mount glass panels can attach to almost any existing wall without the need for baseboard-style foundations to hold the panels in place, making them a perfect fit for stairways.

If you don’t want to do a complete reno or remodel of your business, a frameless glass railing is a modern and minimalist way to update your environment.

    2. Frameless Glass Railings are Maintenance Free

As a business owner, you have better things to do than spend your time cleaning frameless glass patio railings, or paying your employees to scrub away.

Because there aren’t any grooves or corners where mould and dirt can build up, all it takes is a squeegee and simple glass cleaner to keep everything sparkling for years to come.

    3. Frameless Glass Reduces Wind and Noise

Nobody wants to be shouting over howling wind or city noise as they have food and drinks on your restaurant or café patio.

Frameless glass patio railings protect your outdoor space from excessive sound and wind, making them a popular choice for those in the hospitality industry.

Top mount (base shoe) glass panels are particularly practical and beautiful around patios that you wish to enclose but where you do not want to impede the view. They’re securely held in place with horizontal metal strips, much like a curtain rail.

    4. There Are No Panels for Kids or Pets to Climb Through

Side Mounted Frameless Glass RailingIt’s important to be aware of the safety risks your equipment can pose to the public. An inconvenience or injury can lead to a customer complaint, a negative online review or even worse – legal action.

With frameless glass railings, there are no open spots where a curious kid or unattended pet could attempt to squeeze or climb through, making them a safe option for any type of business.

Are frameless glass railings right for you?

With their durability, environmental friendliness and low maintenance, we think you’ll be happy with your frameless glass railings for years to come.

Testimonials

If I knew anyone in the BC area who was in need of shower doors, I would refer them to ECLIPSE GLASS in a heartbeat. I came across this company via an internet search because I needed both sliding glass doors and grab bars installed in my shower. I was relocating to VAncouve, BC when I called them. I was closing on my new home and beginning a new job soon thereafter, so I was under a huge time crunch. Their prices were reasonable, and they agreed to work with my schedule. With a leap of faith and my fingers crossed, I hired them. I am so thankful I did! I dealt with a lot of different companies, services, and people throughout my moving process. ECLIPSE GLASS were easily the most timely, accommodating, and customer-oriented. My realtor even commented on their high level of professionalism. The best part was that the shower doors came out great!
